The Mountain View Hiking Club was started in 2011 by a group of five coworkers who wanted an excuse to get outside on weekends. It has since grown to a mailing list of a few hundred people, though a typical hike draws between ten and twenty of them.

The Mountain View Hiking Club meets every Saturday morning at 8 AM, rain or shine, at the same trailhead parking lot the group has used since it started. New members are welcome at any meetup and don't need to sign up in advance, just show up with water and good shoes.

The club's most popular annual event is the Ridge Trail Sunrise Hike, held on the summer solstice. Members start hiking in the dark with headlamps so they can reach the ridge in time to watch the sunrise together.

Membership is free. The only cost is an optional ten-dollar annual contribution toward trail maintenance, which the club donates directly to the local parks department every December.
